Osage Orange Hedge

In doing research I’ve found many references to Osage Orange hedges.  Some of these go back to literature from the mid 1800’s.  Repeatedly variants of the phrase “Horse High, Bull Strong & Hog Proof in a few years” can be found.  My mom found a local tree and picked up a few for me.  I now have to work on getting the seeds out of these “apples” in such a way that I can plant them in the spring.  I have no idea how many seeds are in each pod or how long it will be before produce seeds of their own.  But since I don’t have any money invested in this, there isn’t any risk.  I’m hoping to grow a hedge around a small paddock to keep a pig, goat or a few chickens in.  It should prove interesting at any rate.
