Starting an Asparagus Patch

Two years ago we joined a CSA and for the first time I had asparagus that I felt had to eat because I paid for it.  We found roasting it with olive oil and salt tasted pretty good.  Therefore I decided to start an asparagus patch.  I know that from seed it take two years to get anything and another year or two before you get any real production.  I’m not really sure what soil conditions are conducive to growing asparagus, so it is off to the web to try and find out.  The variety of seed I have is called Mary Washington.
